DJing with a Breathtaking View: Unforgettable Night at La Roche Estate, Franschhoek

The opportunity to perform at Franschhoek's La Roche Estate was one of those gigs that just hits different. Surrounded by the Cape Winelands, with mountains in every direction and the golden hour light doing its thing, it was as close to a perfect setting as you can get.

The Venue

La Roche Estate sits in the heart of Franschhoek, one of South Africa's most beautiful wine valleys. Think rolling vineyards, stone walls, a lawn that stretches forever, and the kind of sunset that makes your phone camera look like a painting. Setting up the decks there felt almost unfair. The backdrop was already doing all the work.

Reading the Room (and the Sunset)

The brief was elegant but energetic. I kicked things off with soulful deep house as guests arrived and the wine started flowing. Slow builds, warm pads, just enough to set a mood without overpowering conversation.

As the sun started dipping behind the Franschhoek mountains, I shifted gears. Deeper grooves, more rhythm, a few vocal cuts that got people nodding before they realized they were dancing. That transition from cocktail hour to dance floor happened naturally, which is always the goal.

That Moment

Every set has one. The crowd locks in, the mix is flowing, the energy in the room just clicks. At La Roche, it came during a sunset transition. The whole venue was bathed in this ridiculous orange light, and the track I dropped just... fit. People stopped their conversations and turned toward the music. Those are the moments I DJ for.

What I Took Away

Wine estate gigs are quickly becoming my favourite kind of event. There's something about the combination of nature, good food, and music that strips away all the pretense. People genuinely let loose. No phones in the air, just people living in the moment.

Franschhoek, you were incredible. If you're planning a wine estate event, a garden party, or anything in the Cape Winelands, let's chat about making it memorable.
